Like all other boys I was an avid fan of ‘Strongman’, watching it every Christmas. However, I never had any aspirations to even go to a gym. I was a big drinker and smoker. It wasn’t until after the birth of my daughter that I joined a gym just to keep my wife company there. I got more and more interested in weights and got stronger and stronger. In 2018 we went to an agricultural show and there was an amateur strongman show.  My wife got in touch with the organiser via Facebook and I was invited to train on a weekend.  Four months later I had my first competition where I came second and I’ve never looked back. Training has changed my life around. ABC helps with my depression. Training keeps my mind off other things and the people that work and train there are so down to earth and supportive of each other.  It doesn’t matter what sport or physical activity you’re interested in, the knowledge from all the PTs is great. I now want to train harder than I have ever trained before to make it in to the top five under 90kg athletes in England. Hopefully, with the support at ABC, I will get there.

This is me before joining a gym weighing 52kg – now a more healthy, active 89kg.
