For the second year, ABC collaborated with Tees Valley Sport to provide a summer programme for young athletes in the Teesside area.
This year, we worked with two groups of swimmers from the Loftus Dolphins ASC. Each group spent one day a week at ABC for the duration of the six-weeks summer break and, between the hours of 10.00-3.00, were involved in a variety of training sessions incorporating cardio, strength and mobility work.
At ABC, we pride ourselves on having experienced trainers in many different disciplines. For instance, the young swimmers received expert tuition on flexibility training from Sergei Kosakov (an ex-gymnast); they took part in boxing fitness sessions with professional boxer, Troy Williamson; and were even given a taste for strongman events under the guidance of strongman competitor, Adam Laverick. Around this, the young athletes completed circuit-based sessions aimed at developing their strength and conditioning. It was great to see the swimmers improve not only their strength and endurance, but also their technique and confidence, over the six-week period. The only negative feedback we received was that they wished that the days had been longer!
