MEET THE TRAINERS

Andrew Burton

Health and fitness have different meanings and varying levels of importance. Good health is the single most important thing in life, in my opinion; the ability to achieve things you enjoy whilst staying healthy, the ability to keep mentally balanced in the midst of everything that life throws at you and staying in good physical health whilst achieving things you want to achieve.

Having experienced some extreme and tough circumstances in my own life, I know that balancing everything can be challenging. However, this is where I can help you. Whether you’re an elite level athlete, busy businessman or women or an ambitious driven young person. I will help you achieve your full potential and set you on a journey of top-class health, fitness and mental growth.

My interest in fitness began at university when I joined the Lancaster University Karate Club back in 1989.  It was whilst working towards my 3rd dan black belt nearly 20 years later that I invested in some personal training with a local personal trainer and this is where my real passion for fitness began.  I developed not only a keen interest in training but also in sports and remedial massage.  After many years as a teacher of History, I made the decision to change career and focus on helping people achieve their own health and fitness goals as a personal trainer myself.  I am passionate about people having the ability to move freely and be able to perform in a range of disciplines.  At ABC I not only offer personal training but also regularly lead the lunchtime, evening and weekend classes.

Jordan Jaques

I’m currently a trainee personal trainer and member of staff at ABC. I’ve been involved with fitness all my life with playing football competitively from a young age and playing at the best standard that wasn’t academy level. I went on to win many league titles, cup competitions as well as the county cup in my final junior year of football.

As I got older and matured the more I realised that the fitness and training side of football was more appealing to me. I still enjoyed the competitive nature of the games but the preparation and basic fitness training was what really interested me. As well as football I competed in various athletic events with myself specialising in sprinting. I was district champion for a time and regularly competed at county championships. My biggest achievement within sprinting was running 11.37 seconds untrained which was a career best for me and something I’m very proud of.

These led to me starting my path through fitness where I first studied Sports & Exercises Science and achieved full marks throughout the 2 years. Then recently I completed my 3-year course at Teesside University where I studied Applied Sports and Exercises Science finishing with Upper Second-Class Honours. I knew very early into the course that as informative and necessary it was, I wanted to be more practical and hands on and put the theory into practice which is where the idea of becoming a Personal Trainer arose. I was contemplating a few options after my 3rd year but after running some online sessions for the gym over lockdown, Andy graciously offered me a role at the gym which I accepted on the spot.

ABC is the type of place where you look forward to going to work and train and is comfortably the best gym environment and gym in the area.

I have been weight training for over 10 years. I fell in love with strength sports whilst serving in the Royal Navy and I have been competing in Powerlifting and Strongman for around 4 years now.

Weightlifting and Strength training in particular changed my life and gave me great confidence and happiness.

It’s now my passion to share that with my clients and gym members, teaching them all the lessons I have learned over the years.

Despite having watched clients hit goals they could only have dreamed of (i.e. strength gained, weight lost) my best achievement was in curing a shoulder issue.

The lady in question couldn’t lay on her left side and would frequently wake up screaming in pain. Within a few weeks she told me she slept all through the night even waking on her side pain free.

Due to my knowledge and her hard work her quality of life greatly improved. This is why I love what I do and will always ensure the best service is given as I know how life changing it can be.

Fitness has always been my passion. From starting in the industry at 18 years old I’ve gained the knowledge & confidence to help others on their journey. Its great seeing my clients and our gym members achieve their goals and improve their lifestyle for the better.  I love working with people and seeing them achieve things they never believed they could.

Helen Willers

I was a late starter when it came to joining the fitness industry and it wasn’t until my 30’s that I truly fell in love with the process of having a healthier and more active lifestyle. The benefits I discovered throughout my own training became more than just a physical journey but my whole mental state of mind and wellbeing changed dramatically. I decided that if I could do it, then why not help others realise that they could do it as well? Self-love, self-discipline and confidence are things that I discovered in my PT career and this will always be the ethos in helping anybody I meet.
